On December 19, 1961, the Indian Army launched the 'Operation Vijay campaign' to free Goa, Daman and Diu from Portuguese rule. Following the order of the Indian Government, Indian Army started operation here.
- The Portuguese army had kneeled after some protests and the Portuguese governor had left Goa after signing the surrender form. Since then, it is celebrated as Goa Liberation Day 'Goa Liberation Day'.
- It is believed that in the 16th century the Portuguese came here with the purpose of searching. After which he had occupied Goa. For 450 years, the Portuguese ruled Goa.
