Kings XI Punjab, captained by Ashwin in the IPL season-11, easily won the match by defeating Kolkata by 9 wickets with the help of Gayle and Rahul's trophy. Lokesh Rahul was dismissed by playing a scintillating innings of just 60 runs in 27 balls. Gayle played six sixes in 38 balls and scored an unbeaten 62 runs.
Earlier, chasing the target of 192 runs before, Gayle and Rahul were given a fantastic start to the Punjab team. But due to the rain the match had to be stopped in the middle. Gayle and Rahul, batting in a tighter manner, scored 96 runs in 8.2 overs for the rain. After resumption of the match after rain, Punjab were to score 126 runs in 13 overs, which they made after losing 1 wicket.
