Among Mahatma Gandhi's most visited photos, 'Raising salt from the land of Gandhi-Dandi' has actually been revealed, not of Dandi, but of Bhimrad in Surat. This photo was taken on April 9, 1930 in Bhimrad village of Chorasi tehsil, under Surat Municipal Corporation. Balwant Patel, a former Sarpanch of Bheemarad and a councilor in NMC, told that he has gathered all the facts related to the photograph and sent it to the government.
Dandi satyagraha was on 6th April. Gandhiji and other Satyagrahis came to Bhimrad on 9th April, where they addressed the mass media. On the same day, Bapu had taken salt from the ground and this picture was drawn only then. Right now Bhimraad has also built a memorial of Bapu in the same place. A gathering is held here on Gandhi Nirvana Divas and Gandhi Jayanti.
